Owner and operator of both Adipos Flytying and The Canadian Tube Fly Company, Stuart has had the pleasure of tying and fly fishing for over thirty seasons. Stuart decided several years ago (along with his family) to turn his hobby and passion into a living. One that would provide top quality flies and fly tying products to customers world wide. He felt that tube flies were tremendously underrepresented in North America and there was a market for products that would help steelheaders and fly-fishermen in general, find a central location to order all things tube flies..

Anyone who has ever dealt with Bob knows what a gentleman he is. His website, Nordic Way Tube Flies has served thousands of tyers over the years as a place for information and inspiration. Known in the tube fly world as the "King of Epoxy", Bob is the type that sees a new material or design and creates fly patterns that are completely unique. Besides working closely with us on several ideas and patterns, Bob teamed up with Mark Mandell for "Tube Flies Two: Evolution". The book continues to spread the word about the versatility of tube flies and the possibilities that come about binging tube tyers from around the world together. We will miss our friend Bob who passed away in 2022.

John has been with the CTFC since the start. Not only an accomplished tyer and guide, he is also our resident (winter) "guru" of all things salt water. He has been the developer and test pilot of most of our pacific salmon flies. He takes the realistic view of shrimp, prawn, and bait fish and has the uncanny ability of making patterns that look and swim fantastic in the water. We couldn't help but put our favourite "after fishing" snapshot up for John!

Juri has been, and continues to be an inspiration behind many of our patterns and products. For those not familiar with Juri's work, he revolutionized the industry with his Long Range, Skittle, Weight Forward, Summer Arrow, and Pipette tube designs. He took the "basic" bottle tube and was the first to address the issue of hook hang down. Juri was the first to design slotted metal tubes that actually served as the body of the fly, the actual pattern is tied on the inside liner tube. Juri was an accomplished professional in the fly tying world. Juri will be missed.

While growing up, bait fishing for trout was frequently a family outing but it wasn’t until my mid 20s that I took up fly fishing. My first few years with a fly rod were spent targeting brook and brown trout in both the rivers and saltwater lakes of Nova Scotia. I have gradually become keenly interested in tying Scandinavian style patterns, as well as putting a personal twist on classic patterns with adjustments to colour or profile. Throughout much of my life, I have had somewhat of a revolving door of hobbies. However, fly tying has become much more than just a hobby, as hours can seemingly melt away while I am behind the vise and it has become one of my outlets for dealing with stress of day-to-day life.

I started fishing Steelhead and Atlantic Salmon in 2010 with a centerpin when I moved to Sault Ste. Marie for school. In less than half a year I had made the switch to a two handed fly rod and will never look back. I started tying flies in January of 2011, I caught my first Steelhead on the swing on January 14, 2011 on a “Lady Caroline” that I had tied myself using Canadian Tube Fly Heron Hackle. Since then I have studied the classic style salmon flies and the newer trends of flies that are being swung these days. I have found that I enjoy tying flies as much as I do fishing these days. It is extremely rare that a day to goes by where I don’t sit at my vise for an hour or two learning and practicing techniques. Through tying many different styles of flies I have found my biggest passion in the classic salmon flies of past years. Very few things are as exciting as hooking a Steelhead or Atlantic on a 100 year old classic salmon fly pattern.

Steve has been tying for longer than most people would like to admit. If you have ever had the pleasure of speaking with Steve, you'll know what true passion for a sport and art is. There is never a moment when Steve is not dreaming up a way to create a new pattern using unusual methods and materials. Steve is truly an "outside the box" thinker when it comes to brainstorming about new directions in tube tying. Steve is currently on the Regal Vise development team and is the originator of Polar Pony Hair.

For over two decades he has been an accomplished fly tyer, fly fisher, and teacher. Rick has been profiled or published articles in: The Toronto Globe and Mail, The Hamilton Spectator, Fly Tyer, Fly Fusion and The Atlantic Salmon Journal to name a few. A guest tier and speaker throughout Canada and USA his flies have been highlighted in many books and periodicals. In 2004, Canada Post commissioned Rick to tie a Full Dressed Jock Scott. For the last 20 years he has guided on many of Lake Erie’s tributary streams for steelhead and has written numerous articles on the unique style of fly fishing often needed to catch these elusive and sometimes finicky fish. His writing credits include Fly Fisherman Magazine, Wild Steelhead and Atlantic Salmon, Mid-Atlantic Fly Fishing Guide, Pennsylvania Outdoor Times, Eastern Fly Fishing Magazine and Salmon, Trout, Steelheader.

Joe says it best himself...."After putting 30 long years in a steel mill, I feel I’m slightly qualified to know what it is to work for a living. Fishing has always been a constant passion for me, starting at the age of six when a neighbour took me and his kids to the side of Grey’s Creek in Cornwall, Ontario, to fish for anything that swam. We kids used long bamboo poles, wooden floats, a thick, green cord for a fishing line and of course, worms. The catfish we caught went in the frying pan, except for one of mine that ended up in the fire instead, thanks to an overzealous hookset. Some would say that my fishing habits haven’t changed much since. :) My first fly rod was bought from a department store in 1969 and I've been hooked by the sport ever since. I've been in the industry side of things since 2006 as a pro staff member and a sales representative. I have my Certified Casting Instructor qualification from the Federation of Fly Fishers.

Writer, photographer, commercial fly tyer and guide…if it has to do with fly fishing you can bet Jason Akl will be there. Over the last decade fly fishing/ tying has been more than just a weekend hobby for Jason. The sport has become the staple that most of his life revolves around. Professionally, Jason has been a seasonal guide and commercial fly tier that teaches tying/ fishing classes to both adults and children. Jason shares his in-depth knowledge regularly through written pieces which have appeared in both Canadian and American publications, as well as numerous global websites. Jason is a member of the pro-staffs for Daiichi, Monic fly lines, Gatti fly rods, Triple Fish Lines, and Bluesky leaders. Jason and his wife Stacy, currently reside on the shores of Lake Superior in Ashland, Wisconsin.

Illustrator, photographer, airbrush artist. A retired draftsman and tooling engineer. Ken started fishing at the early age of three and fly fishing and fly tying at 10. Fly fishing has taken him around the globe in search of different species of fish. He is a life member of International Federation of Fly fishers, Trout Unlimited, North American fish club, United Fly tyers, he also belongs to other chapters and local organizations..

The area of the country Michael is from is not noted for fly fishing and in efforts to help fly fishing take its place in community he persisted in requests from outdoors writers to “ just go fly fishing with me once” and if it doesn’t meet your satisfaction I promise to leave you alone. Michael’s fly tying skills in his own words, is nasty stuff that catches fish and not the eye of the angler. Almost all of his tying centers on the use of tubes, and epoxy colors. While not a production tier he is custom tier for in his owns words and tied to catch fish and not the angler.

I was born in southern England. My father was the one who introduced me to fishing at a very young age, and instilled in me a lifelong passion for fishing and all the other creatures that lived in the water… We used to fish in lakes and rivers, off the pier and occasionally, deep sea fishing too. We targeted freshwater and saltwater species such as Carp, Tench, Rudd, Roach, Pike and Eels. I now live in Canada, a country blessed with some of the worlds best freshwater fishing. I am a professional fishing guide with 11 years of experience, and my job has taken me to some of the best lodges and fisheries all over Canada, and South America. Jim now live just outside Boston, Mass in a town called Marlborough and has been in the fishing Business for the past 32 years. Jim owned a tackle shop in Pulaski, New York from 1981 thru 1999. The shop, Whitakers Sport Shop & Motel was on the Salmon Rive, a major salmon and steelhead river entering Lake Ontario because of the New York Hatchery. Since 1984 I have been a full time Spey casting instructor and for the past 18 years I have owned the Chapelle Lodge on the Matapedia River in Quebec, Canada.
